Are you ready to flip your classroom?

Before you get started, here are some things to consider...
DETERMINE TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS

Since the flipped classroom is technology heavy, it is important to examine what your requirements will be. You may need to consider:

  • A Learning Management System (LMS) to host your home work.

  • Technology to enable you to take pictures and create videos.

  • Laptops or tablets to lend to students who don't have access at home.

  • Other apps or software that creates assessment instruments, animation, VR field grips, gifs, tables, Venn diagrams, advance organizers, etc.

START SMALL

If you think a flipped classroom might work for you, try incorporating a single lesson in a flipped format.  Then:

  • Ask for feedback from your students.

  • Ask yourself how well the lesson outcomes were achieved in comparison to the standard lesson.

  • Did learner engagement and enjoyment increase?

  • Were you able to offer more individualized learning to your students?

ASK FOR HELP

Your fellow teachers may have already incorporated the flipped classroom into their teaching and learning schedule. Do:

  • Ask for advice on how to incorporate the flipped classroom into your teaching.

  • Ask them about the challenges they may have faced by using this learning  model.

  • Start a group at your school for teachers interested in flipping their classroom and support each other.

  • Attend PD sessions related to flipped classrooms.

  • Visit the resources page for more advice on flipped classrooms.
