Welcome to my first blog post! But, why the tentacles?

Well, tentacles are flexible and mobile. All things good learning should be. They're also pretty cool since they belong to amazing creatures like octopuses and squid, some of my fave critters, who are smart, dedicated and canny. From these thoughts, Tentacle Development was born.

I’m very happy to share my thoughts on adult learning and e-learning with you here. We’ll explore topics including formative assessment, e-learning authoring tools, how adults learn and lots more.

However, today I’d like to share with you some insight into why organizations choose external, or freelance, curriculum development services, like mine here at Tentacle Development. Of course, there are tons of reasons why this might occur.

Maybe you’re an e-learning curriculum developer at a large company but you’re swamped with work. HELP….right?

You could be a small mom & pop company that wants to provide some in person training to a few employees but you just don’t know anything about creating courses.

These are all legit reasons so let’s explore this a bit further…

1. As mentioned already, freelance curriculum developers can provide your company with a custom product or service that you just don’t have the time or expertise to create in-house. We can help you focus your thoughts about training you would like to provide, help you choose content (and keep you on track so you don’t go down a rabbit hole!) and delivery methods, assist with sequencing of training programs, modules or content, create lesson plans for instructor use, create e-learning courses for you… Phew! So many things we can help with.

2. Freelancers often have contacts with other professionals that can assist you in achieving your goals, whatever they may be. These professionals include graphic designers, teachers/instructors, coders, editors, experts in various fields, project managers, imaging and audio experts and other educational professionals. Whoever you need to help create your end product, we will find them.

3. Freelance curriculum developers often have years of experience on the job. They often worked full-time for various organizations including schools, colleges or universities, government departments or private corporations. They’re innovative people you can use to expand your team when you need them. They’ve done this for a long time and they’re good at it! Let a freelancer help you get the most from your organization’s training programs.

4. Freelancers will work with you in whatever capacity you require. Need to meet regularly to discuss the work? No problem. Want to provide a broad outline of your requirements and check back on a prototype? That’s fine too. We deliver what you need.

Need more incentive to outsource some of your training requirements? Why would you? Using the services of freelance curriculum developers just makes so much sense.

Check out Tentacle Development’s work portfolio and contact me whenever you need that little extra bit of help creating amazing training programs.
